I purposely chose the National because I wanted to relax and not be in the midst of a big bar, etc. What was not disclosed to me was that due to Music Industry week, they would be having a huge party by their pool with DJ's and booming "house" music (6-8 GIANT speakers) from 11am - 11pm. There were 700-1000 people (mostly non-hotel guests) drinking and dancing by the pool leaving no place for the hotel guests to enjoy. I love music but it was deafening and there was no place to enjoy by the pool. For those of us who retreated to the beach (from which you could still hear the booming music), there was limited food and drink service. I made two separate reservations - One with Travel online and one with the National directly. There was plenty of opportunity to disclose this. They didn't even tell me when I checked in. As an added bonus, they decided that 8:00-10:00am would be a good time to test their fire alarms. It was the LEAST relaxing vacation I've ever had. The staff was unsympathetic and unresponsive. The rooms were tired and worn - I had to prop my shower head up with a wash cloth and screw together the bottom of my floor lamp so it wouldn't fall over. I met several guests from the Delano Hotel next door who were also very disappointed - They couldn't enjoy their pool area either because the music from the National was so loud. I cut my vacation short and went home.

Booked this hotel through the travel website... Booked a Deluxe Room with an "Ocean View".. Well we got a room with a view of the alley and it was only on the 3rd floor so both mornings we were there we were awoken to the beautiful sounds of Dumpsters being dragged down the alley.. when I first checked in we looked at the room and I told them i paid for the ocean view through travelocity. They said sorry this is what you get. After further thought when i went down again they gave us a coupon for a "Free Breakfast" NOT HAPPY... then the last morning when they slip the bill under our door we were billed for drinks from the ROOMS mini bar.. this was a problem for me bigtime considering THE ROOM DIDNT HAVE A MINI BAR!! Lots of other hotels in Miami these guys didnt seem to care about my reservation through the travel website. We wont go back.. Way over priced and it smelled very musty..I was a little concerned after writing a complaint letter to the travel agency nothing happened, no email, no phone call nothing.

Well we got there and it is a nice hotel. We came in early in the day and had to wait a little bit for our room. We reserved a Cabana room about 4 or 5 months previously. When we went to get our room key they told me they did not have a Cabana room available due to construction and what not. They were very polite. They offered me a room on the 10th floor with a ocean view, a bottle of wine and a free diner at their resturant. I was not pleased having to change the room type and etc but we made the best of it. The pools are great, the beach is wonderful, the food is GREAT and all the people there were very nice. I would go back again. Just be prepared to not get the room you reserved.

When we first walked into the hotel it looked amazing, the decor was very nice and the door men were very friendly. When we went to check in the woman could not find our reservation. After about 5 minutes of trying to look us up she asked us to go sit down and wait. This was very irritating, but as 10 minutes passed and then 15 I got really irritated and went back up to talk to her, realizing that she hadn't done anything. We ended up having to call the agency we booked with ourselves, then had to have them email the reservation to the hotel. I think that that should have been her job. It took over an hour to finally get our room which was small, and not very clean. The bathroom was small as well. The concierge was very friendly and helpful though and the pool/beach area was beautiful. I will definitly stay somewhere else if I ever go back to Miami.

The hotel is in the perfect spot (between the Ritz Carlton and Hotel Delano) with a great pool and beach access. They have the BEST beach and pool lounge chairs with wonderful service. The rooms are very nice with very comfortable beds. The only thing is the bathrooms in the main hotel are really small. They said the hotel was built in 1940 and only the poolside cabana rooms have larger bathrooms. They are much pricier, so for what we paid it was worth it.
